Uses
Aerocort is prescribed to prevent asthma attacks for asthma sufferers. It should only be used as a preventative, and is not effective when an asthma attack has already begun.
It reduces the inflammation and irritation in the lungs, by preventing certain chemicals from being released in the patient's body.
Dosage and administration
Your physician will provide you with a demonstration and the necessary training if you have not previously used a spacer kind of inhaler.
The typical recommended use for adults is 2 inhalations, carried out 3 or 4 times a day. Children may be instructed to take 1 or 2 inhalations, 2 to 4 times a day.
Always follow the prescription and directions for use provided to you by your physician.
Side effects
Possible side effects include the following listed below. Report any of these to you physician promptly.
- Headaches
- Lightheadedness
- Dry mouth, nose, or throat
- Infections of the mouth or throat
- Voice changes
- Coughing
- Sore throat
- Wheezing
- Changes to your taste and/or smell
- Increased eye pressure
- Increased tear production
Seek immediate medical attention if your asthma condition worsens or if you notice any of the following more serious side effects which are listed below.
- Numb, tingling, or painful sensations
- Unexplained sores, bruises, or rashes
- Symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as hives, swelling, or difficulty breathing
Precautions
Aerocort is not suitable for all patients. In order to allow your physician to accurately assess if it is a safe treatment for you, always inform your physician of any of the following which apply to you.
- You are pregnant or trying to conceive
- You are breastfeeding
- You have any allergies or hypersensitivities
- You take any other medication (including non-prescription off-the-shelf meds)
- You take any dietary supplements, vitamins, or herbal health products
- You consume alcohol, tobacco, or any recreational drugs
- You have any existing health conditions or illnesses (especially glaucoma, cataracts, pulmonary tuberculosis, cushing's syndrome, suppressed adrenal gland, or cardiovascular related)
