Bromocriptine (brand name Parlodel) used to treat pituitary tumours Parkinson's disease. Other pituitary-related problems such as female infertility, amenorrhea (absence of menstrual period), hypogonadism, galactorrhea or acromegaly may also be treated with Bromocriptine.
What is Bromocriptine?
Bromocriptine is a dopamine agonist used to treat dysfunctions related to excessive prolactin. It is also used to treat Parkinson's disease and acromegaly.
Bromocriptine and Parkinson's Disease
Bromocriptine can be used to treat signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease. It will usually be used with Levodopa.
Bromocriptine and Acromegaly
Acromegaly (excessive growth) may be treated with Bromocriptine. Bromocriptine reduces the concentration of growth hormones by as much as greater than 50%.
Bromocriptine and Hyperprolactinemia
Hyperprolactinemia (excessive prolactin) can cause many problems including amenorrhea (absence of menstrual period), infertility, hypogonadism. Bromocriptine has been shown to reduce the size of of prolcatin-secreting tumours which can be the underlying cause of these issues. |
