Uses
Arcoxia (Etoricoxib) is an anti-inflammatory drug which is used to treat the pain and inflammation caused by such illnesses as arthritis and gout. It does this by blocking the production of COX-2( cyclo-oxygenase-2), the substance the body produces which leads to these conditions and their symptoms.
Dosage and Administration
Most patients are instructed to take Arcoxia (Etoricoxib) once per day. It can be taken on an empty stomach or alongside food, unless otherwise advised. Correct dosage varies depending on the severity of the condition being treated. Patients should always follow the instructions of their physician, and never exceed their own recommended dose.
Side effects
Possible side effects which may be experienced by Arcoxia (Etoricoxib) patients include:
- Fatigue
- Swelling
- Hypertension
- Palpitations
Rare, yet potentially more serious side effects should be disclosed to your physician as soon as possible, and may include the following:
- Nosebleeds
- Chest pains
- Changes in taste
- Blurred vision
- Heart failure or stroke
Consult your physician immediately if you notice any liver or kidney problems, sores inside the mouth, or ulcers.
Precautions
Patients require regular blood pressure monitoring while taking Arcoxia (Etoricoxib). Patients suffering from impaired liver, kidney or heart function should also have their kidney function checked regularly to ensure that this medication is/remains safe.
If you have an allergic or hypersensitive reaction, seek emergency medical attention. Possible symptoms include difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, swelling, chest tightness, skin rashes, and hives.
Arcoxia (Etoricoxib) should only be used as instructed and prescribed by your physician or pharmacist. Do not alter your dosage unless specifically instructed to do so by either of the above.
