Uses
Arkamin is used to treat high blood pressure, or hypertension. Arkamin is a central alpha agonist and works by relaxing blood vessels and allowing blood to flow more freely. It can be used on its own or in combination with other medicine designed to lower blood pressure. Reducing the high blood pressure is reduces the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and kidney problems.

Clonidine may also be used to treat hot flashes, menstruation pain, or ADHD (Attention-Deficit-Hyperactivity-Disorder) as prescribed by your physician.

Dosage and administration
Always use as prescribed by your physician. Never self-medicate or adjust your dosage unless your physician has advised you to do so.

The normal dosage for an adult with hypertension is between 50mg and 100mg, taken either once or twice per day.

It is usually recommended that patients take Arkamin on a full stomach.

Do not stop taking this medication without the recommendation of your physician, even if your condition seems to have disappeared. IF you cease taking this medication incorrectly there is a risk of severe withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, shakes, confusion, or even a sharp increase in your blood sugar level.

Side effects
Side effects which have been reported by patients taking Arkamin include constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, sleepiness, headaches, burning sensations, upset stomach, weakness, arrhythmias, and urticarias.

Inform your physician as soon as possible if any side effects persist, worsen, or become bothersome.

Precautions
If you suffer an allergic or hypersensitive reaction, seek immediate emergency medical attention.

Patients should take this medication with caution if they suffer from chronic renal failure, severe coronary insufficiency, and cerebrovascular disease.

Until you know exactly how your body reacts to the medication, you are strongly advised to refrain from driving or any other activities which require a high level of concentration such as operating heavy machinery.

As this medication is not safe for all patients, it is important that you notify your physician if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have any allergies, have any other conditions or illnesses, or if you take any other medicine, supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
