Uses
Atarax is an antihistamine prescribed as a short-term treatment to help manage nervousness and tension linked to mental conditions like dementia and anxiety. The medication is also effective in reducing the itchiness caused by allergies and in helping to calm patients before or after a surgical procedure. Some physicians may prescribe it for use alongside certain pain killer to improve their success. Atarax works by affecting levels of histamine, serotonin, and acetylcholine.
Dosage & Administration
Correct dosage will depend on your health, weight, and the condition being treated. Always consult your physician for directions and follow them strictly.
Atarax is usually taken on an 'as needed' basis, up to 3 or 4 times per day if necessary.
Tablets should be swallowed whole alongside a large glass or water. Do not chew the tablets or allow them to dissolve in your mouth.
Side Effects
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, and headaches. Promptly inform your physician if any of these persist, worsen, become worrying, or become bothersome.
You should immediately consult your physician as soon as possible if you experience any of the following side effects listed below.
- Mood changes
- Shaking or tremors
- Urination problems or changes
- Changes to your vision
If you suffer an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical care.
Precautions
Before you take Atarax you are strongly advised to disclose your full medical history to your physician with particular attention to any breathing problems, eye related problems, heart related problems, hypertension, kidney problems, liver problems, seizures, stomach or intestine problems, thyroid problems, urination problems.
Other medication taken should also be disclosed including non-prescription meds, vitamins, supplements, and recreational drugs of any kind. Particularly important to mention medications include other antihistamines, antispasmodics, epinephrines, MAO inhibitors, Parkinson's related medication, scopolamine, tricyclic antidepressants, anti-seizure meds, sleeping meds, anxiety meds, narcotic pain relievers, and psychiatric meds.
In addition to the above, ensure your physician is also aware of all allergies you have, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and is informed if you smoke or consume alcohol. Delivery Time: 7-14 Days
