Uses
Axepta (Atomoxetine Hydrochloride) is used to treat ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It works by affecting neurotransmitters found in the human brain. This drug is effective in improving the patient's concentrate, focus, and decreasing fidgeting. Consult your doctor for full details of other possible uses.
Dosage and administration
Always use Axepta (Atomexetine) as you are prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or adjust your dosage yourself without first consulting your doctor. Correct dosage varies widely depending on the patient being treated, their medical history, and the severity of the ADHD being treated.
This medication is usually prescribed in two doses per day, one in the morning and one in the evening.
It can be taken either on an empty or full stomach, but it is very strongly recommended you dose at the same time(s) each day. Always swallow tablets whole without chewing, splitting, or dissolving into water.
Side effect
Usually Axepta (Atomexetine) is well tolerated and any side effects are mild and not persistent. You should nonetheless report all side effects you notice to your doctor. If any persist or worsen inform your doctor as soon as possible.
Side effects which have been reported by patients taking Axepta (Atomexetine) include stomach upsets, vomiting, appetite loss, dizziness, and mood changes.
Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any serious side effects such as signs of a stroke or heart attack, vision loss, or any signs of any allergic reaction which may include chest pains, trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling, skin rashes or hives.
Precautions
Until you know exactly how your body reacts to this medication refrain from driving or participating any and activities which require good concentration. Axepta (Atomexetine) has been reported to cause dizziness and drowsiness.
It is strongly advised that you limit alcohol consumption as much as possible while taking this medication.
Axepta (Atomexetine) may not be suitable for all patients. To minimise risks, always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and always disclose full details of the following.
- Any allergies you have
- Any other medication you are taking, including all non-prescription drugs, dietary supplements, and herbal products.
- Any other illnesses or medical conditions you suffer from, such as heart diseases, liver disease, irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, bladder, prostate problems, or mental disorders such as depression and bipolar disease.
