Use
Azom (Aztreonam) is an anti-bacterial and a monobactam drug, which is used to treat bacterial infections such as serious infections caused by gram negative bacteria. It eliminates bacteria which causes lower respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, and other infections including those associated with the lungs, stomach, vagina, and skin.
Dosage and Administration
Always dose as you have been prescribed and finish all courses of medication even if your infection has cleared up. Stopping your course of medication early can cause the infection to relapse.
Typical dosages for gram negative bacterial infections are from 1g to 8g a day. For urinary tract disorder it is 0.5g to 1g every 8 to 12 hours, and for gonorrhoea a single dose of 1g is usually prescribed. Always consult your physician for directions or if you have any questions regarding administration.
Before dosing, always check the vial has not cracked and that the solution has not become cloudy and has no visible particles in it. If you notice any of the above, replace the vial with another.
Side Effects
Side effects can occur and usually affect the central nervous system causing dizziness, vomiting, diarrhoea, confusion, seizures, rashes, trouble breathing, fever, and even swelling if injected.
Report all side effects to your physician. If you experience any which persist, worsen, bother you, or worry you, inform your physician immediately.
If you suffer an allergic reaction seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms can include rashes, hives, swelling, and difficulty breathing.
Precautions
Before you begin taking Azom, inform your physician of any allergies you have, any other medication you are taking (including all off-the-shelf medication), and any other existing health conditions, illnesses, or disorders of any kind.
Do not take Azom if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, cephalosporin, or any form of penicillin (including ampicillin and amoxicillin).
Any patients with liver or kidney impairment of any kind should discuss the risks with their physician as it may not be safe to use this medication. Female patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should also do the same.
Azom can interfere with vaccinations, so patients are advised to avoid receiving vaccination while taking this medication. |
