Uses
Decamycin is a corticosteroid which is administered via in injection and is effective in treating a variety of illnesses and conditions such as arthritis, eye conditions, serious allergic reactions, skin diseases, intestinal disorders, blood disorders, in addition to certain cancers. The treatment is highly recommended for treating these serious illnesses and conditions as it can be administered with far faster effects than similar oral medication.
As well as treating the conditions above, Decamycin can also be used to test patients for Cushings syndrome (adrenal gland disorder).
Dosage and Administration
Decamycin is usually administered by a health care professional, but you and your close relatives/friends also need to learn how to administer the injection.
Correct dosage depends on your health and the condition it is being used to treat.
Before administering this medication check that there is no discolouration, or floating particles in the liquid. If you find either of the above, discard the solution and use another.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include upset stomach, dizziness, insomnia, weight gain, redness, and menstrual cycle changes. If any of these side effects persist or become troublesome, inform your physician as soon as possible.
It is very rare for severe side effects to occur, but you should seek immediate medical attention if you notice joint pains, bleeding, bruise formation, black stools, shortness of breath, irregular heart beat, higher frequency of urination and thirst.
Precautions
Decamycin may be unsafe for some patients. In order to check for any possible danger to you, always ensure your physician is aware if you are suffering from active tuberculosis, CHF or congestive heart failure, hypertension, epilepsy, liver failure, hypothyroidism, renal impairment, diabetes mellitus, peptic ulceration, or untreated bacterial or viral, and infections.
Always inform your physician if you are pregnant, planning to conceive a child, or breastfeeding.
