Uses
Deflazen (Deflazacort) is a corticosteroid used to treat a variety of inflammatory and allergy related health conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis and asthma.
It works by blocking the body's release of chemicals which cause inflammation and allergic reaction. It was developed in the United Kingdom, where it is also still primarily sold.
Dosage and administration
Suitable dosage will depend on the individual patient, as well as the precise condition which is being treated.
The most common dosage for an acute disorder is 120mg per day. Children are usually given the same dose prescription, but are told to dose every other day instead of every day.
You will normally be advised to dose in the morning, with at least a 2 hour gap between taking Deflazen 6 and any medication.
Side effects
Side effects can occur when taking Deflazen 6. Common, but safe side effects include indigestion, menstruation cycle changes, tiredness, irritability, insomnia, and mood or behavioural changes.
More serious effects can include Cushing's syndrome (puffy face), acne, or stretch marks, and in some rare cases excessive hair growth.
If you notice any of these adverse effects while taking Deflazen 6, inform your physician as soon possible.
Precautions
Be sure to inform your physician before you begin using Deflazen 6 if any of the following apply to you.
- You are pregnant, trying to conceive, breastfeeding.
- You have recently been near someone with shingles, chickenpox, or measles.
- You have any allergies.
- You have any existing health conditions such as high blood pressure, epilepsy, weak bones, osteoporosis, or any kidney / liver / heart / lung related conditions.
