Diavista (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) is a convenient, once-a-day pill used to treat Type 2 Diabetes. This drug lowers blood glucose by helping your body use insulin more effectively. For people with type-2 diabetes, the body is able to produce some insulin, but not enough. In addition, the cells have become resistant to the effects of insulin, which means that the body can`t respond to the insulin. This condition is called insulin resistance. Diavista (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) effectively reduces insulin resistance, fasting insulin levels, and blood glucose.
When taken along with healthy eating and physical activity, works by helping the body use its naturally produced insulin, or administered insulin in type 2 diabetes, to help use glucose as a fuel and reduce the harmful buildup of glucose.
Diavista (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) is available in 15mg or 30mg tablets. Your doctor will tell you which dosage you will require. Diavista (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) should be taken once daily with or without food.
Talk to your doctor immediately if you experience nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, tiredness, anorexia, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin. If you are of childbearing age, talk to your doctor before taking Diavista (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) because it could increase your chance of becoming pregnant. Some people taking Diavista (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) may experience cold and flu-like symptoms, mild to moderate swelling of legs and ankles, and anemia. Occasionally, blood glucose levels increased during clinical trials. When taking Diavista (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) with insulin or sulfonylureas, you may be at risk for low blood glucose.
Diavista (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) can cause fluid retention or edema (swelling), which may lead to or worsen heart failure, so tell your doctor if you have a history of these conditions. Talk to your doctor immediately if you experience rapid weight gain, swelling, or shortness of breath while taking this medicine.
If you have moderate to severe heart failure, this drug is not recommended. Also, your doctor should perform a blood test to check for serious liver problems or active liver disease before you start taking this medicine and regularly thereafter. Do not take it if you have active liver disease.
If you have an allergic or hypersensitive reaction, seek emergency medical attention. Possible symptoms include difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, swelling, chest tightness, skin rashes, and hives.
Diavista (Pioglitazone Hydrochloride) should only be used as instructed and prescribed by your physician or pharmacist. Do not alter your dosage unless specifically instructed to do so by either of the above.
