Uses
Duovir N (Lamivudine/Zidovudine/Nevirapine) is prescribed to patients with HIV to help prevent the virus from reproducing and spreading further. It is classed as both an anti-HIV medication, and a Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor (NRTI).
Dosage and administration
Strictly use Duovir N (Lamivudine/Zidovudine/Nevirapine) as prescribed. The correct dosage can vary depending on the severity of the condition and the medical history of the patient being treated.
A typical dose is 2 tablets per day, taken alongside a full glass of water. This medication may be taken on an empty stomach or alongside food.
Always aim to dose at the same times each day.
Side effects
Report all Duovir N (Lamivudine/Zidovudine/Nevirapine) side effects to your physician. Side effects which have been reported by patients taking Duovir are listed below.
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Muscle weakness
- Numb or tingling sensations
- Nerve damage

Precautions
If you suffer from an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention. Possible symptoms may include:
- Breathing difficulties
- Chest pains
- Difficulty swallowing
- Swelling
- Hives
- Skin rashes
You should also immediately contact your physician if you suffer from any of the following which may be a sign of blood problems:
- Fatigue
- Paleness
- Sore throat
- Fever
Avoid all consumption of alcohol while taking Duovir N (Lamivudine/Zidovudine/Nevirapine) as it may put you at risk of liver or pancreatic damage. There have been a few rare cases of liver problems which result in fatality.
Please note that Duovir N (Lamivudine/Zidovudine/Nevirapine) does not cure HIV and HIV is still transmittable to non-HIV Carriers. Never share needles or take part in unprotected sexual acts.
Before you begin taking this medication, be sure to disclose any of the following to your physician:
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- If you are taking any other medication (including all non-prescription and over-the-counter medicines)
- If you suffer from any other existing medical conditions
- If you suffer from any allergies or hypersensitivities
