Use
E-Mycin is a tablet form antibiotic prescribed for a range of different infections of the bacterial kind, such as respiratory tract infections, skin infections, acute pelvic inflammatory disease, and more.< br>
Dosage and Administration
Dose as prescribed by your physician. Never change your dosage unless instructed to do so by a health care professional. Usual dosage is 500mg every 12 hours.
This medication is taken whole with a full glass of water, on an empty stomach. You may experience nausea after taking, in which case you could try taking with a snack or glass of milk. Do not chew, crush, or divide this medication.
As with all antibiotics it is very important you finish the course of medication you have been prescribed. Finishing early can result in relapses of the infection.
If you have missed a dose take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose, in which case you should skip the missed one and continue as normal. Do not double a dose to compensate for a previous one you have missed.
Inform your physician if your symptoms are not improving.
Side Effect
Inform your physician if any of these side effects below are persistent or bothersome.
- Mild heartburn
- Mild Nausea
- Fatigue and weakness
- Vomiting
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pains
Inform your physician immediately if you experience any of these more serious side effects.
- Symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as rashes, hives, swelling, and difficulty breathing
- Seizures
- Chest pains, or any abnormal heart activity
- Hearing problems
- Watery or bloody diarrhea
- Muscle weakness
- Severe nausea
- Mouth sores
- Abnormal colored urine or stool
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin
- A fever
Precautions
Before you start this medication always disclose you full medical history, and details of any allergies, and medication you are taking or have recently taken, including over the counter drugs and recreational drugs. Tell your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, of if you have had:
- Any liver conditions
- Any kidney conditions
- Any heart conditions such as abnormal heart rate, or heart failure
- Low magnesium or potassium
When using E-Mycin:
- Elderly patients may be at a higher risk of certain side effects, you should always discuss with your physician prior to taking E-Mycin
- This medication can increase your sensitivitiy to sunlight. Avoid exposure to the sun when possible, and cover up when it is unavoidable
- Never give this medicine to anyone else, even with the same symptoms as yourself
- If you suspect you’ve overdosed, seek immediate medical attention
