Uses
Foratec Rotacaps (Formoterol Fumarate) can be used for a variety of conditions which include asthma (and nocturnal asthma), reversible obstructive airways disease, bronchospasm, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Please note that this medication will not prevent an attack. It is instead used to manage the conditions listed.
This medication is not suitable for patients under the age of 5 years.
Dosage and administration
Use Foratec Rotacaps (Formoterol Fumarate) only as advised by your physician. Correct dosage can vary depending on many factors and self medicating can easily result in severe side effects or even the worsening of your condition.
The maximum daily dose per day is 48mcg and 24mcg for children who are over 5 years of age. The majority of patients are instructed to dose either once or twice a day.
Patients taking Foratec to prevent exercised induced bronchospasm will usually be required to take 1 capsule 15 minutes prior to exercise.
Side effects
While taking this medication you should consult your physician regarding any side effects you experience. Possible side effects include:
- Headaches
- Palpitations
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Fatigue
- Weakness
- High blood pressure
- Tachycardia
- Hyperglycemia
Side effects which require immediate medical attention include:
- Tonsillitis
- Dry mouth
- Cramps in the muscles
- Sinusitis
- Insomnia
- Infections in the upper respiratory tract
- Symptoms of viral infections
If you notice any of the following side effects you may be suffering from a hypersensitive or allergic reaction and should seek emergency medical attention.
- Hives or skin rashes
- Chest pains
- Swelling
- Trouble breathing or swallowing
Precautions
Foratec Rotacaps (Formoterol Fumarate) do not substitute oral corticosteroids and should never be used to treat emergency asthma attacks.
Patients with other health conditions may need to be closely monitored when using foratec. Examples include high blood pressure and cardiovascular disorders.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding consult your physician before you begin using this medication.
Before you begin using this medication, disclose to your physician any existing medical conditions you have, any other medication you are taking, and any allergies which you suffer from. |
