Uses
Imatib is used to prevent and stop the growth of cancer cells of some types of myeloid leukemia and gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

Imatib helps your body to stop making abnormal cells which cause the tumors to grow.

Dosage and administration
How much you take and how often depends on the strength of the Imatib and your condition. Take strictly as directed by your physician, with a glass of water and a meal.

Do not alter your dose or suddenly stop taking Imatib without consulting your physician, even if you are feeling better. If you do, your symptoms may get worse and increase the onset of unwanted side effects.

Do not eat or drink grapefruit juice while taking Imatib as it may increase the affect of this medicine.

If you forget to take a dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed. 

Side effects
As with all medications, Imatib has the potential to cause side effects in some patients. Common side effects of Imatib include indigestion, an acid stomach, belching, feeling full or bloated, feeling empty, sad, or unusually cold, having difficulty moving, sleeplessness, stiff muscles, loose stools, unexplained weight loss, passing gas, a lack of interest or loss of pleasure in things, belching, and heartburn. If these symptoms worsen or persist contact your physician.

Precautions
Do not take Imatib if you are allergic to it or to any of its ingredients.

Tell your physician if you have allergies to any other medications, dyes, food, preservatives, or any other substances, if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, and what other prescription, non-prescription, or herbal and dietary supplements you are taking.

Tobacco, grapefruit juice, and alcohol may interact with Imatib, so discuss with your physician your use of these substances while taking this medication.

Tell your physician if you have anemia, while blood cell problems, fluid retention in your organs, an underactive thyroid, chickenpox, heart disease, kidney or liver disease, or any type of infection.
