Lumigan Eye Drops (Bimatoprost) - 0.1mg/mL(3mL)

Lumigan Eye Drops (Bimatoprost) - 0.1mg/mL(3mL)

Main Use Active Integredient Marketed Name
Treatment of glaucoma and increase length of the eyelashes Bimatoprost Lumigan®

Uses
Lumigan is the same as Latisse except it is not packaged with disposable applicators. Latisse is applied to the eye lid, not the eye.

Lumigan (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03%) is a medicated eye drop that is indicated in the treatment of Glaucoma or other causes of raised intraocular pressure. Lumigan forms part of a category of drugs known as prostamides. Prostamides have many uses in the human body, one of which is to dilate the canals that drain fluids from the eyes. Lumigan thus accomplishes its objective of reducing intraocular pressure by causing the drainage of excess fluid from the eyes.

Dosage and Administration
Lumigan eye drops are usually used once a day.

Wash the hands before using the eye drops. Tilt the head back slightly and pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Place one drop in this pocket whilst looking away from the dropper. Close the eyes and prevent the solution from falling off through the tear ducts for about one minute.

Side effects

  • Dry eyes
  • Vision disturbances
  • Eye burning feeling
  • Unfamiliar sensation
  • Darkened eyelashes
  • Irritating feeling
  • Conjunctival edema
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Discharge from the eye
  • Pigmentation in iris

Precautions
Avoid using Lumigan when wearing contact lenses as it contains preservatives that can be absorbed by the lenses. A period of 15 minutes should be allowed between the use of Lumigan and the wearing of contact lenses.

Strictly keep the dropper from touching any surface (eyes or hands) as this may lead to contamination. A contaminated dropper could result in infection of the eyes.

The effects of Lumigan during pregnancy and breastfeeding have not been adequately studied. It is not known whether Lumigan is excreted in the breast milk. It may be advisable to discontinue breastfeeding during the treatment.

The effects of Lumiagan on children have not been studied, and therefore not indicated.

Bimatoprost solution can result in a gradual change in the color of the eyes, eyelids and lashes. These color changes are very subtle and may not be noticed for several years. They usually occur in the eye that is being treated. This could lead to a cosmetic difference between the eyes.

The presence of other medical problems may complicate the use of Lumigan:

  • Eye diseases such as iritis or uveitis which might be further aggravated by the use of Lumigan.
  • When undertaking an intraocular lens replacement, a complication called macular edema may arise.

Drug Interactions:

Using Lumigan with thimerosal-containing ophthalmic medications results in the formation of solids (by precipitation). It is advisable to wait at least five minutes between the drugs. There may be other drugs that interact with bimatoprost. The prescribing doctor should be informed of any drugs that you are already consuming.
