Uses
Minirin Nasal Spray (Desmopressin Acetate) is used to treat bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) in patients who have the normal ability to concentrate urine. It is also used to test if the kidneys have the ability to concentrate urine. The active ingredient of Minirin Nasal Spray is known under the name desmopressin acetate. It is an artificial variant of the hormone antidiuretic hormone (ADH). This hormone creates several different activities in the body, which includes the decrease of the amount of urine produced in the kidneys.
Minirin Spray is also suggested for the treatment of particular types of diabetes such as cranial diabetes insipidus. Specific bleeding disorders can also be treated with this medication. Since Minirin Nasal Spray has many functions it may also be used for other conditions as directed by your physician.
Dosage and administration
The dose of the drug differs from patient to patient and depends on the ailment. Commonly the starting dosage of Minirin Nasal Spray for adults and children (children over the age of six) commonly is one nose perfusion per nostril at bedtime. It is important not to inhale when using the spray pump. Later the individual dose can be adjusted by your physician or pharmacist adequate to your reaction to the agent.
If you miss to take a dose of Minirin nasal spray, do not try to make it up in taking another dosage. Instead go back to your regular bedtime dosing schedule at the following night.
Side effects

Precautions
For some patients Minirin Nasal Spray is not suitable. You should not take the usage of Minirin Spray into consideration if you have habits of drinking large amounts of fluid, low levels of sodium in the bloodstream allergy to any of the ingredients of the drug, renal insufficiency, heart disease or any other disease for it is necessary to take fluid tablets.
Beyond that the existence of medical problems may affect the use of Minirin Nasal Spray. Let your physician know before you want to start the application of the drug if you have the followings:
- Nasal infection or blocked up and / or runny nose.
- Little or too much fluid in the body.
- Allergy to anti-diuretic hormone
- Low blood pressure
- Bladder function problems
- Problems with passing urine.
- Cystic fibrosis or any other disease which are responsible for fluid or salt imbalance
- Heart disease
- Blood vessel disease
