Details Plaquenil Generic Name: Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate Packets of 100 x 200 mg Tablets Manufactured by Sanofi Winthrop Use Plaquenil is used in the treatment of various rheumatic diseases, particularly systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or "Lupus") and rheumatoid arthritis. Dosage Plaquenil is a tablet that is best taken with food as it has a slightly bitter taste. Treatment generally starts with two tablets per day and subsequently may be reduced to one a day (or every other day). Side effects Occasionally these tablets may cause Stomach upset, Diarrhoea, Skin rash, Headache, and Hair loss. Plaquenil may rarely affect the eyesight and you may need to have an eye test. Visual disturbances can include: Decreased night vision, Blurring, Difficulty reading - unable to see the words/page clearly. The dose that is used to treat arthritis is very low, but you should your inform your doctor if you have significant problems with your eyesight immediately, your doctor may decide to discontinue your tablets. Precautions Plaquenil is not a painkiller; it works to reduce inflammation. It may take 8 to 12 weeks to produce any benefit by reducing pain and stiffness. A 4 hour gap with Antacids is necessary to ensure the absorption of your Plaquenil.
