Uses
Qlaira is the first contraceptive pill to be developed which contains both the natural form of estrogen, and Dienogest (synthetic progesterone). Qlaira is also effective as a treatment for menorrhagia. The product is also called Natazia in the USA.
Dosage and administration
Always take strictly as directed by your physician. The tablet can be taken with or without food.
Contained are 28 tablets (26 tablets with 4 different doses) and 2 placebos.
Start taking Qlaira on the first day of your period, and take one tablet each day. Begin a new pack when the first pack is finished.
Side effects
As with all medication, Qlaira has the potential to cause side effects in some patients. Common side effects of Qlaira include lightheadedness, bloating, an upset stomach, nausea, abnormal hair growth, vaginal infections, change in weight, hot flushes, and hairloss. If these symptoms worsen, persist, or become bothersome, contact your physician.
Less common side effects of Qlaira include abnormal vaginal bleeding, numbness of your legs or arms, depression, mood swings, sudden shortness of breath, dizziness, change in your speech, chest pain, jaundice, migraines, and vomiting. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your physician immediately, or seek emergency medical treatment.
Precautions
If you are a smoker and over 35 of age, do not take Qlaira.
Doing so can increase the risk blood clots. If you are a smoker and younger than 35, seek your physician's opinion first before taking Qlaira.
Always tell your physician if you have any allergies, if you are taking any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), or if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
Grapefruit may interact with Qlaira.
Qlaira may interact with antiepileptics, aprepitant, barbiturates, bosentan, griseofulvin, modafinil, nelfinavir, nevirapine, ritonavir, rifampicin, rifabutin, and St John's wort.
Always inform your physician if you have a history of heart disease, cancer, strokes, liver or blood clotting problems, jaundice, obesity, asthma, gallbladder disease, high blood pressure, drug/alcohol abuse or dependence, migraines, pancreatic disease, or if you have porphyria.
