Uses
Rcifax (Rifaximin) is used to treat different forms of diarrhea, including traveler’s diarrhea caused by the E. coli bacteria. It works by preventing further growth and spread of the bacteria in the patient's intestines.
Please note that this medication will not treat symptoms caused by influenza, and should not be used by patients with bloody diarrhea.
Rcifax (Rifaximin) is recommended only for patients 12 years old or over.
Dosage and administration
A normal dosage of Rcifax (Rifaximin) consists of three doses a day, taken either before or after a meal. Tables should be swallowed whole without being crushed, chewed, split, or dissolved.
If you miss a dose take it as soon as possible and continue with your medication schedule. If you miss a dose and it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and continue as normal. Never double-dose.
Side effects
Always inform your physician of any side effects you experience while taking Rcifax (Rifaximin), no matter how severe. If any persist or begin to worry you, inform your physician as soon as possible. Side effects may include headaches, vomiting, nausea, and dizziness.
Immediately seek medical attention if you notice skin rashes, hives, chest pains, facial swelling, limb swelling, difficulty breathing, or difficulty swallowing.
Precautions
Do not use Rcifax (Rifaximin) if you have bloody diarrhea, fever and diarrhea simultaneously, or if you have/have had a serious liver disease.
Before you begin taking this medication, disclose any of the following to your physician which apply to you:
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have any allergies
- You are taking any other medication
- You are using any supplements or herbal products of any kind
