Retin-A Micro

Generic Name: Tretinoin

45gm Tube with 0.1% Tretinoin Gel with Microspheres
Manufactured by Janssen-Cilag Pty Ltd

What are microspheres and how does the Microsponge system work?
Microspheres are round microscopic particles made of synthetic polymer. These particles hold tretinoin in the Microsponge system, and the microsponges with the drug are formulated into a gel. The microspheres hold the medication in reserve, allowing the skin to absorb small amounts of tretinoin over time. Dermatologists who conducted the clinical studies believe this may be why most RETIN-A MICRO patients experience little or no irritation. The microspheres themselves remain on top of the skin and are easily washed off when you shower or wash your face.
Use
Retin-A Micro has several uses. Retin-A is widely and popularly used for the treatment of acne, and can also diminish the visible signs of ageing removing lines and fades sun spots. It is also used in conjunction with topical hair loss medications. Retin-As main active ingredient, Tretinoin works by increasing the turnover of skin cells and speeds up the shedding of dead cells.

Application
Retin-A Micro (tretinoin gel) microsphere, 0.1% and 0.04%, should be applied once a day, in the evening, to the skin where acne lesions appear, using enough to cover the entire affected area lightly. Application of excessive amounts of gel may result in caking of the gel, and will not provide incremental efficacy.

Side effects
Retin-A Micro is designed to cause less irritation than Retin-A cream, however you may stil experience the following side effects. Immediately after applying, the skin may feel warm or mild stinging or redness may occur. Some peeling of the skin may occur. These effects should subside as your skin adjusts to the medication. If they persist or become bothersome, inform your physician.

Precautions
This product can make your skin more sensitive to sunburn. When using this product try to avoid too much sun and protect the area of treatment with hats and sunscreen. This medication should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Abrasive soaps, cleansers, medicated creams or lotions can increase skin irritation. Consult your physician or pharmacist about their use.

oncomitant topical medication, medicated or abrasive soaps and cleansers, products that have a strong drying effect, products with high concentrations of alcohol, astringents, or spices should be used with caution because of possible interaction with tretinoin. Particular caution should be exercised with the concomitant use of topical over-the-counter acne preparations containing benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid with Retin-A Micro (tretinoin gel) microsphere, 0.1% and 0.04%. It also is advisable to allow the effects of such preparations to subside before use of Retin-A Micro (tretinoin gel) microsphere, 0.1% and 0.04%, is begun.
