Uses
Risofos is given to treat and prevent osteoporosis and paget's disease. It is a bisphosphonate medication prescribed to men and women to inhibit the effects of osteoclasts and effectively reduce the speed of bone calcium loss.
Dosage and administration
Correct and safe administration should only be determined by your physician. Self-prescribing medication can lead to dangerous side effects. Never abruptly stop taking Risofos, unless advised to do so by a healthcare professional. Never share this medication with anyone else, even if they have the same condition as you.
Typically you will be instructed to dose 30 minutes before the first meal of the day, taking the tablet with a full glass of water.
Remain in an upright position, either standing or sitting, for 30 minutes after dosing. This reduces the risk of stomach upsets.
Side effects
The following are the most commonly reported side effects. If you experience any side effects whilst taking Risofos immediately inform your phycisian.

- Abdominal pains
- Constipation or irritated bladder
- Flu Symptoms
- Pneumonia
- Gassiness
- Dry, crust, or infected eyes
- Mood change
- Difficulty sleeping
- Mouth ulcers
- Nausea
- Muscle weakness
- Sinus problems
- Colitis
- Bone disorders
- Chest pain or tightness
Precautions
Before taking Risofos, always inform your physician if any of the following apply to you.
- You are taking any other medication or supplements
- You have any other medical conditions, especially kidney diseases, or any that affect your calcium levels
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have any allergies
