Uses
Risofos is a bisphosphonate used to treat osteoporosis and Paget's disease. It works by slowing down the loss of calcium from your bones.
Dosage and administration
How much you take and how often will depend on the strength of the Risofos and your condition. Take strictly as directed by your physician at least 30 minutes before you eat or drink anything other than water for the day.
It is important Risofos is taken while either standing or sitting upright and with a full glass of plain water. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking your medication.
Do not alter your dose or suddenly stop taking Risofos without consulting your physician, even if you are feeling better. If you do, your symptoms may worsen and increase the onset of unwanted side effects.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember if you have not already eaten. If you have eaten, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed.
Side effects
As with all medication, Risofos has the potential to cause side effects in some patients. Common side effects of Risofos include insomnia, a bladder irritation, sinus problems, muscle weakness, pneumonia, gas, constipation, dry or infected eyes, depression, ulcers, colitis, bone disorders, a runny nose, chest or back pain, abdominal pain, nausea, anxiety, flu-like symptoms, and weakness. If these symptoms worsen or persist, contact your physician.
Precautions
Do not take Risofos if you are allergic to it or to any of its ingredients.
Tell your physician if you have allergies to any other medications, dyes, food, preservatives, or any other substances, if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or if you are breastfeeding, and what other prescription, non-prescription, or herbal and dietary supplements you are taking.
