Uses
Stablon (Tianeptine) is a mood enhancer used to help treat various kinds of depression. It is particularly effective in treating depression linked to alcohol dependency.

Dosage and administration
Typical dosage is one tablet three times a day taken before each meal. This dosage is lowered for elderly patients and for those suffering from renal dysfunction.

Always consult your physician first if you wish to stop using Stablon. Stopping abruptly can be dangerous, and doing so should be under the guidance of your physician.

Side effects
Side effects when taking Stablon are rare and usually mild when they do occur. It is still important, however, that all side effects are report to your physician promptly.

The most common side effects experienced by patients taking Stablon include abdominal pain, dry mouth, loss of appetite, vomiting, flatulence, insomnia, drowsiness, nightmares, weakness, change in heartbeat, premature ventricular complex, precordial pain, dizziness, headaches, trembling, breathing difficulties, throat tightness, muscle aches, and lower back pain.

Precautions
Stablon is only recommended for patients who are 16 years of age or older.

Do not use Stablon if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to conceive.

Do not use Stablon if you taken any form of MAO inhibitor within 2 weeks, and always inform your physician if you have been using an MAO inhibitor before you begin using Stablon.

If you are undergoing any form of surgery, including dental surgery, it is important you always inform the surgeon/anesthetist/dentist that you have been taking Stablon as it may interfere with the anesthetics you are given. It is always advised that you also stop taking Stablon 24-48 hours before the surgery, however this should always be done under the guidance of your physician.
