What is Tetracycline used for?
Tetracycline is an antibiotic, eliminates bacteria that cause infections, including lyme disease, pneumonia, acne, venereal (sexually transmitted) disease, bladder infections, and the infection that causes ulcers (Helicobacter pylori). Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Tetracycline is manufactured under the following brand names: Achromycin V, Panmycin, Resteclin, Robitet Robicaps, Sumycin, Tetracap, Topicycline.
How to take Tetracycline
Tetracycline 250mg comes in a capsules form to be taken by mouth. Doses should be taken as far apart as possible throughout the day. For example, if your doctor tells you to take tetracycline four times a day, take a dose every 6 hours. Tetracycline should be taken on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Drink a full glass of water with each dose.
Side effects of Tetracycline
Side effects from tetracycline are not common, but they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away: upset stomach, diarrhea, itching of the rectum or vagina, sore mouth, yellowing of the skin or eyes. If you experience skin rash when taking tetracycline call your doctor immediately.
Important information abut Tetracycline
Tetracycline should not be taken by children under 8 years of age or women who are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Dietary considerations with Tetracycline
Drink a full glass of water with each dose of tetracycline. Take tetracycline on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals or snacks. Do not take tetracycline with food, especially dairy products such as milk and cheese. Take tetracycline with crackers or a snack (no dairy products) only if you experience an upset stomach.
