Uses
Urorec (Silodosin ) can be used by patients who have enlarged prostate glands (benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH).
A swollen prostate gland makes it difficult for the patient to urinate due to its close position to the bladder. This drug helps by halting particular receptors resulting in more relaxed muscles so that the patient can urinate more comfortably.
Dosage and administration
Do not use this medicine without your physician's knowledge and advice to do so, as self medicating can lead to ill side effects.
Your physician may instruct you to take a dose of 8 mg per day if you have no other conditions. If you have a mild to moderate problem with your kidneys for example, you may instead be prescribed 4mg a day to start with, gradually increasing as you adjust to the medication.
In any case, you should try to dose at the same time(s) each day with a meal or snack to help you remember.
Side effects
A reduction in the quantity of semen is the most common side effect of Urorec. Patients that take alpha-adrenoreceptor antagonists will find their chances of having IFIS (Intra operative floppy iris syndrome) increasing, which as a result can often lead to complicated eye surgery.
If you experience any side effect, you should immediately consult your physician for advice on how to proceed.
Precautions
Urorec should not be used by those with severe kidney conditions.
