Generic Proscar® | Urototal (Finasteride) - 5mg (30 Tablets)

Uses
Urototal® - equivalent of Proscar® tablets contain the active ingredient finasteride, which is a type of medicine known as a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. Finasteride works by preventing the action of a chemical called 5-alpha reductase.

In the body, the hormone testosterone is converted to a more active form, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), by 5-alpha reductase. Finasteride blocks the action of 5-alpha reductase, and therefore prevents the activation of testosterone.

The enlargement of the prostate gland, which often occurs in men with advancing age (benign prostatic hyperplasia), is dependant upon testosterone being converted to DHT within the prostate gland. In the absence of DHT the prostate shrinks. Therefore, by decreasing the amount of DHT, finasteride helps shrink the prostate.

The prostate gland is found only in men and lies at the top of the tube connecting the bladder to the outside (urethra). Enlargement of the prostate causes it to press on the urethra and bladder and can cause urinary symptoms such as poor flow of urine. By shrinking the prostate, finasteride relieves the pressure on the bladder and urethra. This allows urine to flow freely past the prostate and relieves the urinary symptoms.

Dosage and administration
Typically Urototal is taken either with or without food, alongside a full glass of water. For best results aim to always take Urototal at the same time(s) each day.

Urototal can take some time to take effect, and must be taken consistently to allow the drug to work.

Precautions
Urototal may not be suitable for all patients. Before you start taking it, ensure your doctor is aware of any of the following which may apply to you.

• If you are taking any other medication (including non-prescription, supplements, and vitamins).
• If you following an abnormal or extreme diet or any kind.
• If you have any allergies you have and details of their severity.

If you have any upcoming surgeries inform your surgeon that you are taking Urototal. It is essentially you do this, as the this medication may interfere with anesthesia you are.

It is also essential you inform your physician if you are having a prostate examination, or being screened for prostate cancer.

Urototal is not suitable for use by female patients. In addition, woman who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not handle Urototal tablets, especially if they may have broken or crumbled slightly. If you do come into contact with the tablets, immediately wash your hands and contact your doctor. Urototal can cause birth defects in male babies.
