Uses
Zigat (Gatifloxacin) is used to treat bacterial eye infections. It is a Fluoroquinolone with antibiotic properties. It may also be prescribed to treat other conditions as determined and prescribed by your physician, and you should consult your physician if you would like more information.
Dosage and Administration
Administer Zigat (Gatifloxacin) directly into the affected eye in the same way in which regular eye drops are. Always remove contact lenses before applying. After applying the drops close the eye immediately and keep it closed for approximately 1 minute. While the eye is closed, apply pressure gently to the inside corner of the eye to prevent the solution from draining into your tear ducts.
Side effects
There is always a risk of experiencing side effects when using any medication. Most patients experience no problems, however the following side effects have been reported by patients using Zigat (Gatifloxacin). If any side effects, whether listed or not, occur you should always inform your physician, doing so promptly if any persist.
- Stomach discomfort
- Nausea
- Mild itchiness
- Milk irritation
- Headaches
Precautions
If you have an allergic or hypersensitive reaction, seek emergency medical attention. Possible symptoms include difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, swelling, chest tightness, skin rashes, and hives.
Zigat (Gatifloxacin) should only be used as instructed and prescribed by your physician or pharmacist. Do not alter your dosage unless specifically instructed to do so by either of the above. Dosage and usage often depends on the severity of the condition, as well as the patient's medical history and current health condition.
