Uses
Carvidon MR (Trimetazidine HCL) is used to help with angina pectoris and chronic stable angina on a long term basis.
Its active ingredient is an anti-anginal metabolic substance that works to halt any rapid changes in blood pressure whilst maintaining the heart at its normal rate.
It may also be used for adjuvant symptomatic treatment (vertigo), tinnitus, and visual disorders related to circulatory problems, speak to your physician for a more comprehensive list of possible indications.
Dosage and administration
Only use Carvidon MR (Trimetazidine HCL) under your physician's advice, as safe dosage is highly dependent on many personal factors. As a loose guide, you will typically be advised to take 1 tablet in the morning and once again in the evening, both times straight after a meal with lots of fluids.
Never use this drug without your physician's advice, and never share it with others. Do not double dose to make up for tablets you have missed as this is likely to lead to side effects.
Side effects
Typically, this drug has shown to be well tolerated by most users but like any medication, there are always risks of side effects which could include any of the following.
- Headaches
- Sudden vertigo
- Nausea
- Gastric discomfort or pain
If you experience any side effects, listed or not listed you should contact your physician as soon as possible for immediate advice on how to proceed.
Precautions
This medicine is not a cure for angina and shouldn't be used to treat unstable angina pectoris as starter therapy. It should not be used to help with myocardial infarction either. You should disclose any of the following during consultation:
- any allergies you may have
- if you use any other prescription or non-prescription medicine
- if you take any supplements or vitamins
- your medical history
- if you consume tobacco, grapefruit or alcohol
