Uses
Advantan Ointment (Methylprednisolone Aceponate) is used to treat skin condition such as eczema and psoriasis. It helps to lessen the severity of symptoms such as redness, itchiness, soreness and inflammation. It is a topical corticosteroid (shortened to steroid) which is directly applied to the skin.
Dosage and administration
Use Advantan only as prescribed. Do not self-medicate, or change your dosage or frequency of use without your physician's guidance.
Apply directly to the affected areas. Avoid applying close to the eyes, nose, mouth, or any cuts, scraps, or burns.
Normally you will be instructed to apply the ointment once per day for a period of no longer than 12 weeks. This medication should not be used by children for longer than 4 weeks consecutively.
Side effects
Side effects which are normally mild and safe include itchiness, redness, burning, blistering. If any of these worsen, persist, or become bothersome, inform your physician.
Side effects which are more serious include dilated blood vessels, pale stretch marks, papules, pustules, inflamed hair follicles, facial rashes, abnormal skin changes, changes in skin colour, unusual hair growth. If you experience any of these adverse effects, or any others not listed, you should inform your physician as soon as possible.
Precautions
Advantan Ointment (Methylprednisolone Aceponate) may not be suitable for use by all patients. If any of the following apply to you it is essential the physician prescribing the cream is aware.
- You are using any other medication, including non-prescription medication, supplements, and vitamins.
- You have any other medical conditions or illnesses, especially skin related.
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive a child.
- You have any allergies.
