Detrusitol (Tolterodine Tartrate) is a muscarin antagonist. It is used for the treatment of urinary incontinence, urgency and frequency in patients who are unable to control their bladder wall. Detrusitol (Tolterodine Tartrate) controls the release of urine by reducing spasm and relaxing the smooth muscle of the bladder wall. It also increases the storage volume of the bladder and can act on the brain to delay the desire to urinate.
The normal dose is 2mg twice daily, taken with or without food. The dose may need to be decreased to 1mg twice daily if you experience troublesome side-effects. Detrusitol (Tolterodine Tartrate) may take up to 4 weeks before you see the maximum benefit of treatment.
